Team USA swam to 33 medals in the Rio Olympics, its most since 2000, including winning gold in 16 of the 34 races. What a performance! We hope this gives our swimmers extra motivation as we begin the Fall Session for USRP Racers. Who knows? One of our current swimmers may be a future Olympian. Or maybe a new member will make a future Olympic team. But at least as important, all USRP Racers will learn skills that will help them become good citizens and lifetime competent swimmers. We are preparing for a great future.
The fall schedule is
NOTE: No practices for any groups August 30, September 5-6, 15, 23, 27, October 4.
Fall Saturday practices for Junior and Senior Racers: August 27, September 3, 10, October 1, 15.
The focus of the team is proper technique for fast swimming. We train with the Ultra Short Race Pace Training protocol used by many US swimmers, two noteworthy ones being 17-year-old Michael Andrew and 44-year-old 1996 and 2000 Olympian Josh Davis. Michael placed 4th in the 100 meter breaststroke at the US 2016 Olympic Trials, achieving a new National Age Group record. As a Masters swimmer, Josh reports that he is swimming faster than he has in 10 years and enjoying racing more. As a team, our swimmers regularly achieve over 75% best times at swim meets.
USRP Racer coaches maintain a positive, encouraging atmosphere. The team is swimmer focused, coach led, and parent inspired. We teach respect for each other, for coaches, for officials, and for competitors from other clubs.
